SSC 107 Introduction to International Studies (SS)

An introductory look at the world’s political, economic, and social structures in order to gain a better understanding of how nations interact and why world leaders take particular actions to further the interests of their nations. Emphasis is placed on the impact which world events have on individuals and the lives that they live.

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Outline the different diplomatic, political, and military options open to world leaders dealing with various crises.
  3. Explain the major environmental issues facing the world and the factors which impact them.
  4. Discuss what factors may motivate the leaders of the world’s nations to take particular actions on behalf of their nations.
  5. Identify the major international organizations and their functions.
  6. Describe the major approaches by which individuals living in different nations form their perceptions of the world.
  7. Describe the major economic issues facing the world and particular world regions.
  8. Summarize economic and political issues involving world trade and potential impacts to individual, organizational, and community behavior.
  9. Discuss how world history affects modern diplomacy.
