TESOL 580 Introduction to Applied Linguistics

TESOL 580 presents an overview of the field of linguistics including phonology, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics. Special emphasis is placed on the psychology of teaching and learning languages effectively, as well as practical approaches to teaching pronunciation to language learners. Candidates connect theory with practice and explore the characteristics of how languages are analyzed, adapted, and changed. Candidates discover and analyze how languages differ from one culture to the next and reflect social relationships.Course Entry Requirements: A Bachelor's degree, and TESOL 510, 520, 530, 540, 550, and 598.
