CS 479 Data Mining and Machine Learning

Data Mining involves the processing, analysis, and presentation of data to gain valuable information. Machine learning refers to a broad set of algorithms for identifying patterns in data to build models that might then be possibly productized. The basic types of data mining need machine learning algorithms such as clustering, classification, regression, pattern mining, prediction, association, and outlier detection with attention given to various forms of data, including time-series data and web data. Students completing this course will understand proximity measurement, data preparation, information extraction, cluster analysis, classification, regression, supervised learning, unsupervised learning, mixed methods, and deep learning.
