SSC 107 Introduction to International Studies (SS)
This course is an introductory look at the science of international relations for students who wish to learn how various actors participate on the global stage. The course topics such as international laws and norms, economic and social agendas, and political theory all interact in the international system. These topics will also be viewed through the lenses of realism, idealism (or liberalism), and constructivist international ideologies. The rapidly globalizing world, and the forces that influence it have a substantial impact on a student’s private and professional life. Understanding the international system and how it works can provide an added perspective to any field.
Outcomes
- This course will prepare students to:
- 1. Interpret international political theory and ideology and their impacts on global actors.
- 2. Investigate the long- and short-term global impacts of decisions made by political, social, and economic international actors.
- 3. Analyze the causes of global cooperation and conflict and provide suggestions for ways to either facilitate cooperation or mitigate conflict.
- 4. Apply globally centered concepts from the international system on the local and individual level.
- 5. Leverage AI technology for assisting the writing process and identifying strengths and weaknesses of AI writing capabilities.
