PM 504 Project Planning and Control *

Planning is central to project management along with scope, schedule, and cost. This course will examine project scope and schedule development processes based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). Advanced scheduling development processes will be addressed, enabling students to create a work breakdown structure and to define and sequence activities using advanced scheduling techniques. Scheduling techniques such as the use of activity calendars and the application of baselines for analyzing schedule performance will be addressed.

Outcomes

1. This course will prepare students to:
2. Develop a solid grasp of project cost management concepts and techniques.
3. Prepare a cost estimate and analyze staff resources, cost drivers, contingency costs, and management reserves.
4. Distinguish between the role of planning and cost management processes in project, program, and portfolio management.
5. Demonstrates understanding of how to apply fundamental project planning practices in establishing a project baseline for an organizational environment.
6. Apply one or more specific techniques to analyze the schedule, and identify and classify issues and risks that could impact the schedule.
7. Apply appropriate resource management tools and methods in a given project context, including organizational breakdown structures, responsibility assignment matrices, and other means, to document and communicate project roles and responsibilities.
8. Ability to apply fundamental project planning practices into a scheduling software.
