ECC 602 Counselling Practicum

In this course, students continue to be oriented to the role of a school counsellor as part of the internship experience. Learners practice counselling microskills, practical and ethical processes, including consultation, supervision, and confidentiality. Students continue to explore positionality and power dynamics and their impact on counselling relationships. Students begin to engage with case conceptualization and apply ethical decision-making in line with district policies and professional codes of conduct.

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. 1. Explore the purposes of consultation and supervision.
  3. 2. Apply consultation/supervision to the role of school counsellors.
  4. 3. Define the meaning of wellbeing and its significance in professional practice and maintain a sufficient level of personal wellbeing in the role of school counselling practicum student.
  5. 4. Demonstrate the use of microskills.
  6. 5. Apply an understanding of one’s own positionality and explore power dynamics inherent to counselling experiences.
  7. 6. Apply ethical considerations, Code of Ethics, district protocols and policies in professional practice.
