ETC 612 Literacy I: Instruction and Assessment

This course provides a foundation for literacy instruction; topics include reading and writing instruction, response to literature, language acquisition, construction of meaning/comprehension, and strategies for English language learners.  Candidates learn strategies for literacy instruction which can be used with all learners.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Describe the factors that affect language acquisition and learning.
  3. Develop activities that address the anchor standards for reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language.
  4. Explain culturally competent approaches to literacy instruction.
  5. Apply understanding of literacy instruction to create, teach, and reflect on a lesson.
