COUN 525 Testing and Assessment *

This graduate-level course is an introduction to assessment and testing instruments in counseling. Students learn to administer, score, and interpret a variety of assessment instruments and incorporate test results into written reports. Students complete a series of in-class diagnostic interviews, mental status examinations, symptom inventories, and personality assessments. Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class face-to-face learning, complemented by asynchronous online activities.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. a) Select, administer, score, and interpret a variety of clinical assessment tools.
  3. b) Appraise ethical and cultural factors relevant to selection and administration of assessment tools.
  4. c) Appraise the mental status of simulated clients.
  5. d) Summarize assessment findings in written progress notes and formal evaluation reports.
