ECU 561 Curriculum Design and Evaluation *

This course focuses on the development of effective instructional techniques to ensure that all students achieve their full potential. Emphasis is placed on providing the curricular structure needed for developing and evaluating comprehensive, and research based best practices in instruction. Candidates deepen their knowledge of evidence-based best practices and the scaffolding of learning targets in order to promote and implement high rates of student achievement in current classroom settings. Candidates develop a program designed to apply instructional skills with P-12 students.

1. This course will prepare students to:
2. Describe examples of how Common Core State Standards impact grade level expectations and teaching practice.
3. Explain key theories that inform curriculum development and instruction.
4. Develop effective learning targets for content area strategies.
5. Adapt curriculum and instruction for children who are atypical in their development.
6. Reflect and evaluate classroom practice, inquire into instructional approaches, analyze instructional resources, and critically examine the environments and learning experiences constructed in classrooms.
7. Refine instructional and assessment skills.
