ELL 410 ELL Reading

This course examines literacy instructional strategies for English language learners. Topics include reading assessment, vocabulary, and comprehension. Upon completion of this course, candidates have the skills to design and modify reading instruction for P-12 ELL students.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Research and implement effective ELL curriculum design and planning elements for use in teaching English Language Learners (ELLs).
  3. Develop accommodations and scaffolding for ELLs in order to support them in meeting grade level literacy standards.
  4. Consider the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) when designing personalized instruction.
  5. Apply English literacy development techniques and strategies with ELL.
