ELL 416 Language Acquisition and Bilingualism

This course is an introduction to the principles and uses of linguistics as they pertain to the teaching of English Language Learners (ELL) and the process of second language acquisition. Candidates research theories of language learning, evaluate first and second language acquisition theories, and develop their own theories about language acquisition. Candidates examine ELL teaching methods, analyze and summarize the major factors that affect second language learning, and then draw conclusions about which teaching practices equitably support ELL.
