ETC 519 Curriculum and Instruction Methods
In this course, candidates examine the basic principles of culturally sustaining instructional design and delivery as applied to the K-8 curriculum. In the pursuit of understanding foundational elements of instructional design and practices, candidates experience a studentdriven approach to learning that allows for each person to be their authentic selves, reflect, problem-solve, be creative, and offer feedback. Candidates are introduced to community-driven, experiential, and multidisciplinary teaching and learning that will support the critical inclusion of the cultural wealth of all students and families. This course includes components of state requirements for certification.
Outcomes
- This course will prepare students to:
- 1. Understand inclusive practices in selecting, using, and adapting curricula, technology, and resources that effectively align with learning goals, processes, and intentions in
developmentally appropriate, culturally sustaining, and antiracist ways
- 2. Align learning targets, goals, and intentions with regional and national requirements,
curriculum frameworks, and district, school, and classroom goals.
- 3. Align feedback and assessment strategies with learning targets, goals, and intentions.
- 4. Design student-driven instructional activities that allow each student to be their authentic selves, reflect, problem-solve, be creative, and offer feedback.
- 5. Create scaffolded learning opportunities that are suitable for all students especially
multilingual students, advanced students, and students who need accommodations.
- 6. Design a variety of methods of establishing two-way connections between families and teacher.
