SOC 320 Juvenile Delinquency (SS)

This course will evaluate the origins of laws and definitions of juvenile delinquency, the techniques used to measure delinquency, sociological theories of crime, and institutions of social control for juveniles, including the juvenile justice system and delinquency prevention programs.

3. Evaluate the relationship between environmental factors (such as family, peers, school, and drugs) and delinquent behavior.
4. Evaluate the methods used by sociologists to measure crime and delinquency.
5. Examine the origins of juvenile delinquency.
6. Assess the relationship between a number of demographic variables (i.e., sex, race, class) and delinquency.
7. Assess the ability of sociological theories to explain crime and delinquency.
