BC 307 Corporate Social Responsibility

Taking into account the changing expectations of consumers, employees, and regulators, organizations across the globe are expected to evolve their perspective towards business by transforming into socially and environmentally responsible, sustainable, and ethical systems. This class is designed to facilitate the above transformation by offering a holistic and effective approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Students will learn about the key concepts, theories, and philosophical approaches to CSR, along with the practical tools needed to implement this knowledge in the real world. The course design consists of three key components. The first part provides the theoretical background of CSR, the second part examines various CSR approaches and how they can be implemented, and the third part discusses measuring and communicating CSR.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Apply theories of ethics such as consequentialism and deontology to assess and inform managerial decisions.
  3. Gain an understanding of the key building blocks and components of CSR reporting.
  4. Design and develop integrated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategic plans using proper frameworks.
  5. Evaluate an organization’s CSR report using appropriate assessment models for continuous improvement purposes.
  6. Distinguish among various theories and philosophies of ethics with an emphasis on comprehending their individual contributions to managerial decision-making.
