COUN 526 Counseling Theory

This course provides a graduate-level introduction to counseling theories and their practical application during the counseling process. Students are introduced to the five major theoretical schools (psychodynamic, humanistic, behavioral, systemic, and constructivist). The course also explores a number of current issues in counseling and psychotherapy. Each student deeply analyzes their beliefs about human behavior, resulting in the development of an initial, critically-informed personal theory of counseling.
