ELL 412 ELL Strategies and Assessment

In this course candidates will research the factors that influence English Language Learners (ELLs) second language development and investigate what instructional practices, strategies, and materials are best suited for specific content areas with those factors in mind. Candidates will examine culturally responsive teaching practices to support second language development and methods for integrating content and language.

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Implement English Language Development (ELD) standards.
  3. Research individual and socio-cultural factors that may influence second language development.
  4. Research and apply culturally responsive teaching practices.
  5. Utilize effective communication strategies with ELL students and families.
  6. Integrate ELL instructional strategies in content areas, i.e., social studies, science, mathematics.
