TM 505 Mergers and Acquisitions in the Technology Sector

Students explore mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and alliances as vehicles to achieve corporate strategic objectives for sustainable performance. Students examine methods, tools, and techniques to evaluate proposed transactions and investigate challenges and problems encountered in post-merger integration. Upon completing the course, students understand risks related to the strategic, financial, operational, and legal perspectives of an M&A process.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Apply analytical concepts, methods, and frameworks to M&A scenarios and present effective solutions, recommendations, and/or action plans.
  3. Examine the risks, challenges, and opportunities in M&A situations along with the associated elements in the structure and process of the transaction.
  4. Evaluate key elements of M&A transactions.
  5. Evaluate the motivation and methods investors and companies utilize M&A to pursue strategic objectives, including share value enhancement and EPS growth.
  6. Test the analytical framework of target valuation within the M&A context.
  7. Assess the financial impact that a transaction may have on the acquirer’s pro forma position using proper financial management methods, tools, and/or techniques.
