Transfer Policies for Doctoral Degree and Certificate Programs
All transfer credits must reflect grades of 3.0 (B) or better.
Students seeking a certificate at the doctoral level may transfer no more than 25% of the total required credits to earn the certificate. All credits in transfer applied to a certificate must be at the doctoral level.
Credits may be transferred via approved specialized study, course waiver, course substitution or direct equivalency (or any combination of these). Courses taken in direct transfer for a degree requirement must be equivalent to the required CityU course/s as determined by similar course numbers, titles or content.
Transfer credits may not apply toward comprehensive examination or dissertation requirements.
All transfer credits must be approved by the Program Director.
To earn a doctoral degree, a student must earn all required credits in residency (i.e., via CityU courses taken in any delivery format) except for the approved transfer credits as limited by policy.
Program Specific Restrictions
EDD in Leadership Policy
Students seeking an EDD in leadership who have completed graduate or doctoral-level coursework at other recognized institutions may transfer up to 12 quarter credits from an earned master’s degree and up to 12 credits from other graduate or doctoral coursework earned after completing an initial master’s degree.
DBA Policy
Students seeking a DBA with an MBA or EMBA from a recognized institution may transfer up to 18 earned master’s credits for their specialized study. Students with all other master’s programs from recognized institutions may transfer up to 15 transfer credits.
A total of 24 credits may be transferred into the DBA program. Students with credits from graduate or doctoral coursework earned after completing an initial master’s degree may bring in additional credits up to the total.
DIT Policy
Students seeking a DIT degree who have completed graduate or doctoral-level coursework at other recognized institutions may transfer up to 12 quarter credits from an earned master’s degree and up to 12 quarter credits from the doctoral level toward the DIT. Up to 12 quarter credits may be in a field other than technology and computing,
Doctoral Certificates School of Business and Management
Students seeking doctoral certificates of less than 36 quarter credits may not utilize transfer credits.
Exceptions for Dual Delivery, Bilateral, Joint-Delivered, Partnered and Teachout Agreements with Articulation
Within a dual delivery, bilateral, joint-delivered, or partnered articulation agreement with another institution, the provost may approve additional transfer at the doctoral level.
