ESP 553 Behavior Analysis I

This course examines behavior analysis and management strategies for students with challenging behaviors. Emphasis is placed on collecting data to analyze the function of behavior and developing effective behavioral interventions for individual students. Candidates will use self-assessment and reflection to analyze their own assumptions and/or biases relating to diversity and challenging behaviors. Candidates will develop an understanding of their role in collaboration with team members in the functional behavioral assessment process. Course content includes: 1) functional behavioral assessment, 2) behavioral intervention planning, 3) social/emotional learning, 4) ethics and legal issues, 5) secondary trauma, and 6) teacher self-care. Course includes components of state requirements for certification.
