PSY 314 Personality Theory (SS) *

Introducing students to the major theories of personality, this course encourages students to critically evaluate each perspective. Personality theory is a foundation for much research and practice in psychology. Students will confront questions regarding the definition and development of personality, individual and cultural variations in personality, and the implications of research for practical application.

  2. Show understanding of the inter-relationship of personality theory and developmental psychology.
  3. Describe influences of ethnicity, culture, gender, and sexual orientation on personality development.
  4. Explain the major concepts in personality theory.
  5. Compare and contrast salient ideas of prominent theorists in personality psychology.
  6. Identify various schools of psychology and their respective theories of personality.
