ETC 511 Curriculum and Instruction

This course examines the basic principles of instructional design and delivery as applied to the K-8 curriculum. The course emphasizes student centered instructional design including assessment of the student learning context, best practices, essential learnings, common core standards, and differentiation. The course introduces candidates to elements of effective planning and instruction including positive inclusion of cultural and community assets of students and families. This course includes introduction to state requirements for certification.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. Understand best instructional and assessment practices in selecting, using, and adapting curricula, technology, and instructional and assessment resources that effectively align with learning goals, are developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive and free of bias.
  3. Identify and communicate learning targets suitable for ALL students that align with regional and national requirements, curriculum frameworks, and district, school, and classroom goals.
  4. Align assessment strategies with learning targets.
  5. Design a variety of methods of establishing two-way connections between families and teacher.
