Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Education

The Master of Education Curriculum and Instruction prepares students to use research-based methodologies for increasing student learning and improving classroom practices. Students will be able to apply their learnings to specified learning outcomes (often using their own classrooms as a basis for what they learn) and earn credit toward their master’s degree. Course topics focus on best practices for personal evaluation, multicultural perspectives, globalized learning, family and community engagement, individualized instruction, and more. In addition, students can customize their program to align with their professional interests through specialized student options.

Master of Education degrees may require additional documentation of Professional certification programs or academic credentials. Exceptions to these policies may be made by the dean.

 

Program Outcomes

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction will prepare students to:

Interpret educational theories and scholarship to inform best practices in education and create engaging learning environments supporting the diverse needs of students.

Utilize quantitative reasoning skills to analyze data to inform instruction and assessment that support evidence-based decisions in diverse settings.

Demonstrate a commitment to the ethical and professional dimensions of teaching through culturally responsive practices.

Integrate personal and professional development to navigate the complexities within educational settings.

Interpret and apply critical thinking pedagogy through reflective practice.

Admission Requirements

In addition to City University of Seattle's graduate admission requirements, found under Admissions in the catalog menu, applicants to this program must also meet the requirements listed below:

  • Complete a bachelor degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher or a master or doctoral degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Complete a Master of Education Admissions Questionnaire
  • Submit a Resume with three references
  • Submit a Goal Statement that includes a statement of your career goals and how this Master of Education program will help you attain your goals (at least one page in length, but not longer than two pages)

Specialized Study Emphasis

Student must choose 24 credits from pre-approved areas of study. Examples of specialized study emphasis areas include Elementary Education, National Boards, or STEM. Please contact an advisor.
