COUN 760 Research Fundamentals and Program Evaluation

This course introduces students to the philosophical and ethical underpinnings of research inquiry, incorporating foundational information for other research courses. Students survey overviews of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research methodologies used across the Counselor Education and Supervision discipline in a pluralistic and evolving society. Additionally, students will investigate professional consultation models along with program development and evaluation practices.

Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.

1. This course will prepare students to:
2. a) Analyze, compare, and contrast the philosophy of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies.
3. b) Demonstrate ethical decision making related to cultural diversity and social justice impacts on research, including participant recruiting, selection, data collection, and analysis.
4. c) Identify and justify an appropriate research approach for a specific research question.
5. d) Understand models and methods of consultation, and program development and evaluation.
