COUN 775 Methods and Analysis of Qualitative and Action Research
In this course, students explore the theoretical foundations of qualitative inquiry and action research methodologies across the counseling practice, counselor education and clinical supervision disciplines in a pluralistic and evolving society. Students will develop a conceptual understanding and practical application of qualitative research data gathering, analysis, and interpretation. Some specific qualitative approaches include, but are not limited to, ethnographic, case study, phenomenology, and grounded theory. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to produce a qualitative project draft that would include qualitative research application, analysis, and interpretation of data information.
Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.
Outcomes
- This course will prepare students to:
- a) Understand and apply the purposes and research methods of a qualitative study, including appropriate explorative guiding questions of identified phenomena in a pluralistic and evolving society.
- b) Understand and preform various data collection methodologies and data analysis of qualitative studies including professional trustworthiness standards.
- c) Identify uses, limitations, and ethical applications of qualitative research.
