COUN 780 Advanced Quantitative Methods
In this course, students explore and identify a specific quantitative-focused dissertation question(s), identifying specific methodology. Students are introduced to data analysis methods, including detailed application of statistics software for their dissertation study. Students construct a proposed dissertation prospectus to include a brief literature review, justification of the project, research question(s), identified population, instrument(s), data analysis method(s), and ethical and legal considerations in a pluralistic and evolving society.
Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.
Prerequisite
Students must successfully pass COUN 760, COUN 770, and COUN 775 prior to enrolling in this course.
Outcomes
- This course will prepare students to:
- a) Evaluate and select an appropriate quantitative research method to address a specific research question/hypothesis in a pluralistic and evolving society.
- b) Select appropriate univariate and/or multivariate analysis to formulate, test, and interpret hypotheses for research variables.
- c) Assess the reliability, validity, assumptions, and limitations of appropriate instruments for dissertation research topic.
- d) Integrate principles of research ethics and trustworthiness to the quantitative research design to include proposed Institutional Review Board submission.
