COUN 785 Advanced Qualitative Methods
In this course, students explore and identify a specific qualitative-focused or action-research-focused dissertation question(s), identifying specific methodology and data analysis methods for their dissertation study. Students construct a proposed dissertation prospectus to include a brief literature review, justification of the project, research question(s), identified population, instrument(s), data analysis method(s), and ethical and legal considerations in a pluralistic and evolving society.
Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.
Prerequisite
Students must successfully pass COUN 760, COUN 770, and COUN 775 prior to enrolling in this course.
Outcomes
- This course will prepare students to:
- a) Evaluate qualitative research approaches and select an appropriate approach for a specific research question in a pluralistic and evolving society.
- b) Finalize research questions related to selected qualitative approach including population and sampling considerations.
- c) Identify data collection and analysis methods relevant to their selected qualitative research approach.
- d) Integrate principles of ethics and trustworthiness to the qualitative research design to include proposed Institutional Review Board submission.
