COUN 700 CES Orientation and Professional Writing

This foundational course orients students to the Counselor Educator professional identity and develops students’ critical thinking, academic writing, and oral presentation competencies. Students explore the roles and functions of Counselor Educators related to social justice issues, working in a pluralistic and evolving society, and mentoring in counselor education.

Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. a) Analyze, synthesize, and apply scholarly literature in a variety of academic and research writing genres
  3. b) Apply advanced academic writing skills and the American Psychological Association (APA current version) professional writing style to engage in ethical scholarship while demonstrating appropriate citation and referencing skills associated scholarly writing.
  4. c) Incorporate professional presentation skills into multimedia presentations.
  5. d) Explore the roles and functions of mentoring in counselor education working in a pluralistic and evolving society.
