COUN 780 Advanced Quantitative Methods *

In this course, students explore and identify a specific quantitative-focused dissertation question(s), identifying specific methodology. Students are introduced to data analysis methods, including detailed application of statistics software for their dissertation study. Students construct a proposed dissertation prospectus to include a brief literature review, justification of the project, research question(s), identified population, instrument(s), data analysis method(s), and ethical and legal considerations in a pluralistic and evolving society.

Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.

Prerequisite

Students must successfully pass COUN 760, COUN 770, and COUN 775 prior to enrolling in this course.

Outcomes

1. This course will prepare students to:
2. a) Evaluate and select an appropriate quantitative research method to address a specific research question/hypothesis in a pluralistic and evolving society.
3. b) Select appropriate univariate and/or multivariate analysis to formulate, test, and interpret hypotheses for research variables.
4. c) Assess the reliability, validity, assumptions, and limitations of appropriate instruments for dissertation research topic.
5. d) Integrate principles of research ethics and trustworthiness to the quantitative research design to include proposed Institutional Review Board submission.
