COUN 730 Advanced Assessment

This course focuses on gathering and analyzing biopsychosocial data into scholarly treatment planning.  Students explore advanced skills and approaches in assessing, developing, evaluating, and supervising effective treatment planning in a pluralistic and evolving society based on appropriate theoretical perspectives and/or DSM diagnosis.

Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. a) Demonstrate critical decision-making in the utilization of the current DSM classification system in relation to mental and emotional diagnosis for children, adolescents, and adults from a wide variety of pluralistic and evolving populations.
  3. b) Demonstrate integration and application of the assessment information based on the professional counselor’s wellness-based identity operationalized from holistic, multicultural, developmental, theoretical and pluralistic perspectives.
