COUN 710 Models of Clinical Supervision

This course examines current definitions, applications, ethical practices, and impacts of social justice issues related to clinical counselor supervision. Students will explore major models of clinical supervision and the roles of a clinical supervisor in academic counselor-in-training and other professional settings with a particular focus on characteristics of competent and effective supervisory relationships.

Methods of instruction primarily feature in-class learning with some asynchronous online activities.

Outcomes

  1. This course will prepare students to:
  2. a) Compare and contrast the major models and frameworks of clinical supervision.
  3. b) Articulate a personal model of clinical supervision founded on current models integrating evaluative criteria, cultural, diversity, and social justice considerations, developmental states of supervision, and ethical and legal principles.
  4. c) Utilize research literature to analyze contemporary issues in clinical supervision.
  5. d) Apply relevant professional ethical codes/standards, and legal considerations to all aspects of supervisor-supervisee relationships.
